Welcome. Who am I? I am a Church of England Priest (please don’t let that put you off completely just yet), and I am at least trying to understand what’s going on: with us, with the church, and with what we understand by our relationship with God. I work in Fenland, the gloriously ordinary and unpretentious ‘backwater’ of the title. The Church doesn’t encourage radical self reflection, it worries the keepers of orthodoxy who worry that it worries the simply faithful. But I think the widespread perception that Christianity is for the unworldy, niave and credulous must nag at their faith more. What bothers me more is the anxious and uncritical repitition of religious formulae in the face majoritarian modernist secularism and scepticism, and in the hope of banishing subsequent doubt. My greatest love is Love and the excercise of attempting to hear and speak it in wisdom . I want to work, think and speak with others, whatever perspective you hold, and to think through the relevance and credibility of the faith of Jesus Christ in theological, philosophical, social, political and economic terms. Big subjects and off putting to many but this blog I want to be about clarity and with a clear aversion to bollocks!
